The Mussel and Steak Bar

Mussels and steak are two of the finest foods known to mankind, and two which Scotland is rightly famous for. When it comes to experiencing these exquisite victuals, no one within the city limits does it better than Mussel & Steak Bar. Situated on the Grassmarket, the restaurant naturally attracts droves of Scottish tourists; Americans, Japanese and Europeans, many of whom are tasting the nation’s fare for the first time. They won’t leave disappointed, the langoustines and lobsters are as fresh as they come, landed locally and lightly cooked to preserve all their natural flavor, while the 100% Scotch beef steaks are matured for at least 38 days. During the day, a popular lunch menu provides one, two or three courses for a fixed price. Whether stopping by for lunch or dinner, the bar’s popular half kilo of mussels never fails to hit the spot. Served with chips, the generously filled bowl of shellfish is cooked in a white wine and cream source or a spicier chilli sauce made with coriander and lime. The a la carte menu includes seafood specials as well as such timeless classics as Scottish oysters, picked on the West Coast and served on crushed ice with red wine and shallot vinaigrette with lemon, Tabasco and wasabi. Finish with a delicious cheesecake or decadent chocolate mousse cake before wandering back onto the Grassmarket, full and contented.

Loved, loved, loved our experience. Ate there twice over a three night stay, it was that good. Everything was cooked perfectly. Steaks were medium rare as requested . . . The bone-in tomahawk ribeye for two was perfect. The surf and turf with the mussels were awesome, we had the whisky, bacon, cream sauce to go with. The steamed halibut was exceptional as well. If you are within flight range eat here.
